Mangalore Buns are mildly sweet, deep fried banana pooris.
It's been quite a while I was away from the blog. It was my sweet little sister's wedding which kept me busy :) . I really enjoyed every bit of it with family. It was a much needed break :). But reality Check!!!! Back to BUSINESS....
Makes: 8 -10
Ingredients:
1 large Banana or 2 small Banana(Ripe banana will be better)
1 Tbsp Sugar
2 Tbsp Curd/Yogurt
1/8 tsp Baking Soda
1 Cup Wheat Flour /Maida
1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
Salt to taste
Oil to deep fry
Method:
1.Take the banana in mixing bowl and mash it using backside of fork.Add sugar to it while mashing.
or puree them in blender and then add sugar.
2.Add all the ingredients except Flour and mix well to the banana puree.
3.Now add Flour little by little at a time to make soft dough. You may require more than 1 cup of flour(as mentioned in the recipe) to make dough. Dough should be soft.
4.Dough will be Sticky. You can apply oil to hands while making dough. It will be still sticky. But that is fine.Let it rest for 4 to 6 hours. I keep it overnight.
5.Knead the dough once again and make lemon sized balls and roll into pooris on dusted surface.
Do not make it very thin. Let it be slightly thick.
6.Heat the oil on high flame and then keep it on medium flame and deep fry the pooris .
7.When you put pooris into oil gently press the pooris and keep in the oil for few seconds. pooris will puff.
8.Deep fry on both the sides till golden brown and take it out.
9.Enjoy these with coconut chutney or just as it is with cup of tea. :)
Note:
1. Usually it is made with Maida(All purpose Flour). But i used Wheat Flour.
